Scent as a bleed week practice
There's a reason I reach for different things this week. Not to smell good. To feel held.
There's a reason I reach for different things this week.
Not to smell good. To feel held.
This week it's Sandalwood & Vanilla — grounding, warm, something that settles at the base of the throat and stays. Or Rōzu, which is meditative in a way I can't fully explain except that it slows my breathing.
Scent is the only sense that bypasses the thalamus entirely. It doesn't get filtered. It goes straight to the part of the brain that processes memory and emotion — unmediated, raw.
That's not metaphor. That's architecture.
When your nervous system is already doing sacred, exhausting work — wearing something grounding isn't vanity. It's regulation. It's practice.
This is what hearthcraft is, in the small daily version: the intentional use of sense and ritual to stay in the body when the body wants to drift.
What do you reach for this week?
